DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are delighted to announce our most inclusive screening yet – open to all generations across Cardiff to include children\, young people\, men\, women and elders! \nWe kick off half-term with a screening of enchanting film BOY AND THE WORLD. All the way from Brazil\, this extraordinary tale follows ‘Cuca’ – a curious boy who gets swept away by a gust of wind into a faraway world\, ruled by machines and unkindness. In a clash between rich and poor\, machine and animal\, right and wrong\, Cuca discovers the world’s amazing beauty\, its man-made dangers\, and leads us through a journey of hope\, uniting and healing people through song. \nWithout any language (apart from a strange version of Portugese – backwards!) – this entire animation is told through music\, sound and song – therefore is completely accessible to EVERYONE – perfect for children\, people with second language English\, or NO English. \nFree crèche is available\, and after the screening\, we will enjoy a shared lunch. \nDon’t miss an incredible film event to melt the hearts of adults\, children and bring the whole community together! \nThis event is FREE for asylum seeking families! \n

DESCRIPTION:  \nWe’re delighted that the Imagination Forum – our platform for decolonising the arts in Wales – will continue to deliver another five events between now and June 2018\, with support from the Arts Council of Wales! \nWe kick start our second season of Imagination Forums at The Sustainable Studio. with Gathering #4 – a PechaKucha night of presentations from Welsh\, BAME and – BAME Welsh! – artists\, writers\, thinkers\, doers\, makers\, agitators. They will each focus on their reading of an aspect of ‘culture’ from a ‘decolonised’ perspective… \nWhat’s a ‘decolonised’ perspective? ‘Decolonised’ can mean many things\, specifically how we bring perspectives of structural power\, representation and coloniality to our experience and practice of culture. How do we reframe culture – centring and bringing issues of oppression\, race\, class\, gender\, ableism\, language etc – into our thinking? \nWe welcome an exciting line up of speakers\, presenting in a ‘PechaKucha’ style format (fast-paced presentations of twenty\, 20-second slides)\, with a line up that includes writers\, visual artists\, publishers\, spoken word performers\, community arts activists\, and more…. \nJoin us for an exciting evening of fascinating topics\, rich conversations\, even better company and shared community meal! \n  \n \n

For countless marginalized communities around the world\, it’s a different story. Climate change is radically affecting people’s lives in the global south. And those who suffer the most – and contribute to environmental degradation the least – are consistently silenced from speaking up. \nDECOLONISING ENVIRONMENTALISM is a community symposium that looks at climate justice from the perspective of global south communities\, as well as the relationship Wales has to its migrant communities locally and globally. The event will explore connections across environmentalism\, race\, class\, geography\, power and the persistent residues of colonialism. \nWe’ll also be screening THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN\, an extraordinary documentary about Kenyan farmer Kisilu Musya. When he meets Norwegian filmmaker\, Julia Dahr\, they decide to document the merciless impacts of climate change on Kisilu\, his family and community. \nSpeakers include:\nAsad Rehman (War on Want)\nSakina Sheikh (Platform London)\nJoshua Virasami (Black Lives Matter)\nSuzanne Dhaliwal (UK Tar Sands Network) \nOnce the greatest exporter of fossil fuels in the form of coal\, today Wales has the opportunity to press forward with a radical agenda on climate change and sustainability.
