SUMMARY:Imagination Forum #5
DESCRIPTION:The Imagination Forum is back and this time we’re exploring ALLYSHIP. \nWhat makes a good ally? How is allyship connected to power and privilege? How does it inform personal and professional relationships? How do we get better at practising it? \nTo help us learn more about this concept we’re delighted to be welcoming back Joshua Virasami (who joined us at our ‘Decolonising Environmentalism’ symposium last year). Artist\, musician\, film-maker and leading activist with Black Lives Matter London\, Joshu is an inspiring and influential campaigner around climate justice\, environmental racism\, and the power of culture to inform radical change. \nWe’ll also be hearing from some brilliant Wales-based voices\, and exploring the implications of good allyship for the arts sector in Wales. How might good allyship inform new models of partnership working that are born out of transparency\, equity and parity\, instead of what can often be extractivist and colonial practices. \nJoin us\, so we can figure out how to build this work\, in Wales\, together. \nThis event is free for asylum seekers!

SUMMARY:Imagination Forum #1
DESCRIPTION:  \nAll are invited to the Gentle/Radical Imagination Forum – a brand new networking space for discussion\, ideas\, collaborations\, speaker events\, PechaKucha nights\, sharings\, talkings\, meetings and food… \nThis Platform is open to all practitioners from minority ethnic/diverse backgrounds – AS WELL AS ALLIES – anyone interested in exploring what a decolonised cultural sector might look like in Wales is welcome.  The impact of colonial structures on the imagination\, the body and cultural expression continue to inhibit the lives\, careers and contributions of diverse artists\, who have yet to find themselves included or sufficiently embedded within mainstream cultural spaces. \nGentle/Radical does not want the future to look like the past. \nFor those affected by the structural violence of discrimination and exclusion\, one of the hardest but most necessary things is to be able to imagine emancipatory futures. \nWhat would a future free of prejudice\, racism\, and White privilege look like in Wales? And by association\, what would an arts and cultural sector look like which truly reflected the diversity of its citizenry? \n

SUMMARY:IMAGINATION FORUM\, GATHERING #4
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe’re delighted that the Imagination Forum – our platform for decolonising the arts in Wales – will continue to deliver another five events between now and June 2018\, with support from the Arts Council of Wales! \nWe kick start our second season of Imagination Forums at The Sustainable Studio. with Gathering #4 – a PechaKucha night of presentations from Welsh\, BAME and – BAME Welsh! – artists\, writers\, thinkers\, doers\, makers\, agitators. They will each focus on their reading of an aspect of ‘culture’ from a ‘decolonised’ perspective… \nWhat’s a ‘decolonised’ perspective? ‘Decolonised’ can mean many things\, specifically how we bring perspectives of structural power\, representation and coloniality to our experience and practice of culture. How do we reframe culture – centring and bringing issues of oppression\, race\, class\, gender\, ableism\, language etc – into our thinking? \nWe welcome an exciting line up of speakers\, presenting in a ‘PechaKucha’ style format (fast-paced presentations of twenty\, 20-second slides)\, with a line up that includes writers\, visual artists\, publishers\, spoken word performers\, community arts activists\, and more…. \nJoin us for an exciting evening of fascinating topics\, rich conversations\, even better company and shared community meal! \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Imagination Forum #2
DESCRIPTION:  \nYou are invited to the second of three Gentle/Radical Imagination Forums – a brand new platform and networking space for discussion\, events and activities which explore the cultural sector in Wales from a decolonising perspective. \nAt our first event\, we explored what the radical imagination looks like and how it might inform our ideas of the future. We discussed the differences between the terms – and practices – of ‘diversfiying’ versus ‘deconolonising’. And we articulated new visions for what emancipated futures might look like in Wales. \nAt the next Forum\, we’ll continue our exploration of the dynamics of structural inequity as it shapes our cultural and social systems\, with a specific focus on power\, privilege and oppression. \nThings to bring: \nA writing pad (if you forget\, we’ll have paper)\nA table lamp\nA book that has influenced you
