SUMMARY:Conflict Resolution Training with Alternatives to Violence Wales #2
DESCRIPTION:  \nOur Conflict Resolution Training is BACK! \nGentle/Radical are delighted to be teaming with the ALTERNATIVES TO VIOLENCE (AVP) Project Wales\, once again. Whilst our first conflict resolution course created a safe space for women\, this time we’ll be opening out the training to EVERYONE in Cardiff\, this December. \nOver a weekend\, AVP will train people in powerful and effective ways to deal with conflict in daily life – from work situations\, to family tensions\, to inter-personal relationships. Whilst the AVP Workshop Leaders will do some talking\, this will mainly be an interactive workshop\, with participants invited to talk in pairs\, and small and large groups as part of a series of group activities and exercises. \nWHAT DO WE MEAN BY ‘CONFLICT’?\n‘Conflict’ means those times we don’t agree with someone\, or get annoyed or upset because we’re not getting what we want; or not getting what we need. By conflict\, we don’t just mean wars – conflict is part of everyday life and involves struggles with ourselves as much as with each other. Learning how to handle conflict and communicate better is important for all of us\, so we can have stronger relationships with friends\, family members\, colleagues\, comrades – and even those we don’t know! \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \nReflections \nUnsanctioned Journal : Striving For  A Less Violent Society

SUMMARY:Gentle/Radical & Lumin In Conversation With The National Trust
DESCRIPTION:Gentle/Radical will be teaming up with Sadia Pineda Hameed\, the co-editor of Lumin Journal to explore the hidden narratives across museum collections\, colonialism\, labour\, slavery and land. Repositioning the values associated with the colonial in Wales to the participation of Wales in the wider European colonial project\, they will map routes back to our modern-day experiences of the preserved country estates\, the picturesque and The Regency period. \nWhat does a post-colonial cultural program of reparation and resistance look like? \nWhat is Wales’s vision beyond Brexit\, austerity and disenfranchisement\, and who will author it? \n

SUMMARY:Women and War: An Un-silencing
DESCRIPTION:  \nCurated by Gentle/Radical with The Open University\, in Wales\, as part of Festival of Voice 2018. \n‘‘The history of war is also a history of the unsaid – the story of unspoken experience’’ \nOverlapping hierarchies of patriarchy and capitalism have been producing wars for centuries. Within these frameworks\, women’s contributions and resistance to war are all too often silenced. And yet it is women – from Wales to the Middle East\, from the African Continent to Asia\, from India to the United States – who are left most disadvantaged when wars ‘are over’. \nOn 8 March 2018 Komalên Jinên Kurdistan (the Kurdistan Women’s Freedom Movement) issued a rallying cry to women across the world. Their exhortation – with its formulation of a future free of violence\, necessarily centring on women’s liberation – inspires this event looking at war and women’s voices. \nJoin us for an afternoon of talks by leading women academics\, activists and writers to chart a century of war and the continued unfolding of women’s struggles and resistance against the backdrop of imperial terrains. \nSpeakers : Angela Boskovitch\, Huda Amoori\, Suna Parlak\, Tatiana Garavito\, Malaka Mohammed & Jenny Mathers. With contributions from Cynthia Cockburn. \n

SUMMARY:Technical Ambassadors Training
DESCRIPTION:Gentle/Radical are delighted to be teaming up with Film Hub Wales and the Independent Cinema Office to host a FREE workshop on the technical aspects of pop-up film projection and presentation. \nThis is a half day course\, offering women the opportunity to learn and become confident in how to technically set up and use projection and screening equipment to run our pop-up film events. This will be an exciting\, interactive workshop led by an experienced and highly skilled projectionist from the Independent Cinema Office and Chapter Arts Centre. \nWe are keen to develop a group of confident technicians with the skills to set up and use a projector\, learn how to screen films in a pop-up setting\, and fix any technical problems that may crop up during film screenings. We hope that this training will lead in the future to more paid opportunities within the Film Club for female film technicians. \nPlaces on this half day workshop are FREE and a creche will be provided on site\, for women with small children.
