Gentle Ways into Creative Writing, with Durre Shahwar

11th May 2023 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

“Writing has often been a means of bearing witness, allowing us to capture and record events or moments of personal significance”

gentle/radical are delighted to host a creative writing workshop for Riverside residents, led by writer, editor and co-founder of the ‘Where I’m Coming From’ spoken word collective – Durre Shahwar.

A relaxed and gentle workshop, Durre will be drawing on alternative approaches to creative writing (such as note taking, diary journaling and other techniques) with the aim of supporting participants to feel freer and more creative with words; to explore writing without the pressure of having to end up with a finished poem or piece of prose.

The workshop is open to everyone, regardless of experience, and we encourage those who haven’t tried writing before – to come along and give it a go. Through different exercises, Durre will help us explore themes of belonging, identity, memory, the natural world, and the workshop will also include some gentle reading together to inspire us/get us started (but no pressure to read – you can just sit back and listen!).

The workshop will be led in English, but you are welcome to write in a language of your choice.

While open to ALL (over 18) regardless of writing experience, places are limited, and booking in advance is advised!

Tickets & A note on cost This is a pay-what-you-can event. If you need to attend for free, please do so. And if you can make a contribution, to sustain our activities, we very much welcome this too.
